Description

Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Miners Merlot' is a captivating evergreen perennial that enchants with its rich burgundy-purple leaves, beautifully complemented by vibrant lime-green flower bracts. This compact and shade-loving plant thrives in woodland borders and mixed plantings, offering a striking display of color throughout the year. Its low-maintenance nature and drought tolerance, once established, make it an ideal choice for gardeners seeking both beauty and ease.

Reaching a height and spread of 50 cm (20 in), 'Miners Merlot' exhibits a compact, mounding growth habit that forms attractive clumps. In spring, it showcases bright lime-green bracts encircling delicate true flowers, adding a refreshing contrast to its dark foliage. The glossy leaves remain evergreen in milder winters, ensuring that this perennial continues to provide visual interest across all seasons.

This versatile plant flourishes in a range of light conditions, from full sun to full shade, although it achieves its most vibrant color in partial shade. Preferring moist yet well-drained soil, it adapts well to poorer or drier conditions. 'Miners Merlot' is not only a stunning addition to shady borders and woodland gardens but also attracts early pollinators, making it a valuable asset in any garden design. However, caution is advised when handling, as its milky sap can be an irritant; gloves are recommended for safe interaction.
