Description

Autumn fruiting.

One of the best and most reliable autumn fruiting varieties, producing a heavy crop of large, attractive red berries from late August until mid October. The delicious fruits have an excellent flavour and firm texture making them ideal for eating fresh from the plant or freezing for another day. The sturdy canes of Raspberry ‘Autumn Bliss’ makes them perfect for growing in smaller gardens and containers as they don’t require supports for their stems. An excellent British bred variety, with good resistance to raspberry root rot disease. Height: 150cm (59”). Spread: 50cm (20”).

All of our raspberries have been inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture for pests and diseases and certified. The bare root plants are hand graded and carefully selected before packing.

How to Grow
Grow raspberry plants in a sunny position in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. The stems of summer fruiting raspberries will require support. Before planting, prepare a framework of wires stretched horizontally between two sturdy 1.8m (6') posts. Autumn fruiting varieties will not require supports.Plant raspberry canes in a row against the wire supports, allowing a distance of 60cm (24") between plants. Water well. Canes should be pruned to 15cm (6") above ground level immediately after planting to encourage more shoots to be produced.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. Set these at the same level as they were in the nursery field – you should see a soil line at the base of the stem. Stake trees, taller shrubs and roses to prevent root disturbance.

More Info

When do autumn bliss raspberries fruit?

This variety crops heavily between August and October, producing large red berries with excellent taste and texture. The berries are borne of the top of this season's canes.

Where should I plant autumn bliss raspberries?

Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position. Make sure the soil is well-fed with compost or rotted manure.

What special care do autumn bliss raspberries need?

Autumn bliss raspberries should be watered well in the first year until the plant is fully developed. Protect your crop from garden visitors with netting. Autumn fruiting raspberries don't require support. Prune to ground level in February, and mulch around the base of the canes.

Culinary note: Suitable for freezing.
