Flower Bulbs & Tubers

Buy flower bulbs and tubers from Thompson & Morgan and we'll deliver them at the perfect time for planting. Tulip bulbs and daffodil bulbs brighten the garden in spring when there's little other colour. Flower bulbs – more info

Flower bulbs and tubers are a great way of adding seasonal pops of colour to your borders among herbaceous perennials, trees and shrubs.

Pans of garden bulbs potted up in compost also make lovely displays on tables or by your front door and are the best way of appreciating dainty flowers, such as dwarf iris.

Which plant bulbs last the longest?

Most plant bulbs are perennials and will flower for between three and five years, although not all tulips reliably return after the first year. The longest lasting are snowdrops, daffodils, hyacinths and crocus bulbs.

When it comes to the longest flowering display, dahlias will produce flowers for weeks if regularly deadheaded, and allium blooms transform into beautiful seed heads, which extends the season of interest.

Where should I store garden bulbs?

If you have new bulbs that you’re unable to plant immediately, store them in a cool, frost-free place until you can get them into the ground or pots. Most garden bulbs can be left in the ground after flowering although dahlia and begonia tubers should be lifted in cold areas and stored frost-free over winter. A garage or porch are ideal.

Are flower bulbs poisonous to animals?

Yes, most flower bulbs are poisonous to animals, and advice should be sought if your pet has eaten one. If you’re taking your animal to a vet after eating a flower bulb, take a sample with you if at all possible.
