How to store vegetable seeds

Always check the instructions on the packet, if available, for recomended storage. Some seeds are best planted immediately to avoid deterioration e.g. hellebores. Other seeds can be stored until ready to sow.

When storing seeds:

  • Keep seeds in a labelled packet or envelope
  • Place packets in an airtight container
  • Avoid excess moisture gathering in container e.g. use silica gel
  • Store in a cool location at 5?C

When to plant vegetable seeds

Seed sowing can be done throughout the year. Planning is crucial for maintaining a regular supply of seasonal produce.
