Description

Verbascum 'Honey Dijon' is a captivating perennial that stands out with its warm-hued flowers and tall, elegant flower spikes. This particular cultivar infuses a gentle, romantic charm into garden borders and gravel landscapes, thanks to its unique combination of vintage colors and striking architectural presence. The blooms, which range from soft caramel and honey-yellow to apricot, are adorned with a delicate mauve blush at their centers, creating a visually appealing contrast that draws the eye.

The flowering period for 'Honey Dijon' extends from early to mid-summer, with blossoms appearing in succession. If the spent flowers are deadheaded, gardeners may be rewarded with a secondary flush of blooms, prolonging the display of color in the garden. At the base, the plant forms a low rosette of grey-green leaves that are lightly hairy, providing a lush backdrop for the vibrant flowers above. This perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it particularly suited for dry, open areas where it can bask in the warmth.

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, Verbascum 'Honey Dijon' is a boon for local wildlife, attracting bees and other pollinators, which enhances the biodiversity of the garden. It excels in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and gravel planting schemes, adding a touch of elegance wherever it is placed. While it is generally short-lived, it has the potential to self-seed modestly under favorable conditions, ensuring its presence in the garden for years to come. Fully hardy in the UK, this perennial can withstand typical winter conditions without requiring special protection, making it a reliable choice for gardeners looking to add beauty and resilience to their outdoor spaces. Height: 90 cm (35 in) Spread: 45 cm (18 in).
