Description

Renowned for compact habit, prolific flowering, and impressive disease resistance—Lagerstroemia indica ‘Violet D’Été’ offers three seasons of interest - vibrant blooms through summer, striking autumn foliage colour and attractive bark through winter.

Throughout summer and into autumn, this showy shrub steals the spotlight with generous clusters of violet-purple to deep pink flowers, each with beautifully crinkled petals that create a soft, textured effect. As the seasons shifts into autumn, dark green leaves carried on red stems transition to glowing tones of yellow, orange and red. After leaf fall, peeling bark reveals lighter bark beneath offering an attractive feature throughout the winter. More compact than other varieties, Lagerstroemia indica 'Violet D'Été' is an excellent choice for smaller gardens and container growing.

Lagerstroemia is well-loved in Mediterranean gardens but is still uncommon in the UK and deserves to be more widely grown. These exuberant shrubs produce a profusion of long-lasting flowers, delivering a stunning summer display. Thriving in warm, sunny spots that allow the wood to mature fully—such as a south-facing wall—they bring long lasting colour to the garden. When grown in containers, they create an eye-catching feature on a warm, south-facing patio and can be moved to a sheltered spot for winter protection.

Ultimate height: 1.2m to 1.5m (4 to 4.9ft). Ultimate spread: 1m (3.2ft).

How to Grow
Plant Lagerstroemia in any rich fertile soil in full sun. Although reasonably hardy once established, Crepe Myrtle enjoys a hot sheltered position and is best grown against a south facing wall or as a specimen plant in the conservatory.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water Lagerstroemia regularly particularly when grown in containers. Crepe Myrtle plants will appreciate some protection from hard frosts throughout winter. Prune in winter or spring whilst dormant to remove and dead, damaged or misplaced stems and maintain a pleasing shape.
