Description

Sedum telephium 'Dark Magic' is a captivating perennial that stands out with its striking upright growth and stunningly dark foliage. The deep burgundy to nearly black leaves create a dramatic backdrop, maintaining their rich color throughout the growing season. This plant is particularly well-suited for a variety of garden settings, including mixed borders, gravel gardens, and containers, especially in sunny locations where it can truly thrive. Its bold presence adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any landscape, making it a favorite among gardeners looking to create visual interest.

In late summer to early autumn, 'Dark Magic' showcases large, domed clusters of vibrant magenta-pink flowers that provide a beautiful contrast to its dark leaves. These blossoms not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the plant but also serve an important ecological function, attracting a variety of pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The combination of striking foliage and eye-catching flowers makes this sedum a valuable addition to any garden, as it supports local wildlife while offering a feast for the eyes.

This hardy perennial is remarkably low-maintenance, requiring minimal care once established. It flourishes in full sun and well-drained soil, demonstrating excellent drought tolerance, which makes it an ideal choice for gardeners seeking resilient plants. The strong, upright stems of 'Dark Magic' ensure that the plant maintains its structure even in windy conditions, preventing any unsightly flopping. Fully hardy throughout the UK, it easily withstands frost and winter weather, making it a reliable choice for year-round beauty. Its foliage and flowers create a lovely seasonal contrast, pairing beautifully with ornamental grasses and lighter perennials, enhancing the overall garden design.
