Description

Tiers of golden-orange flowers light up the garden in late spring. Primula bulleyana is a classic candelabra primula, loved for its vivid whorls of trumpet-shaped blooms held on tall upright stems above broad green foliage. The rich colouring brings warmth and vibrancy to damp borders and woodland gardens, where the flowers rise elegantly among ferns and hostas. Its bold form and long-lasting flowers create a dramatic effect in groups, especially when reflected beside water. Reliable and striking, it is one of the finest primulas for naturalistic planting schemes. RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit.  Height: 60cm (24in). Spread: 45cm (18in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

Candelabra primulas thrive in cool, moist conditions and are best planted in humus-rich soil that never dries out completely. Choose a position in partial shade or dappled woodland light, although plants can tolerate more sun if the soil remains consistently damp. Water regularly during dry spells, mulch annually with compost or leaf mould to retain moisture, and remove spent flower stems to keep plants tidy. Divide congested clumps every few years in autumn or early spring to maintain vigour and encourage reliable flowering.
