Description

Potentilla aurea is such a delightful little plant! This compact perennial forms a lovely mat and bursts with cheerful golden-yellow flowers that really brighten up the garden. With its soft, silvery-green leaves, it’s the perfect addition to rock gardens, alpine beds, or sunny borders, giving a splash of color to your low-growing planting schemes.

These charming five-petalled yellow flowers show off from late spring to early summer, transforming your outdoor space. The plant spreads out nicely, creating a dense, low-growing mat that’s both attractive and functional. It thrives beautifully in rockeries, gravel gardens, and even as edging along sunny paths.

One of the best parts? Potentilla aurea loves full sun and does well in well-drained soils, including those poorer or stony types. Once established, it’s also drought-tolerant, making it a fantastic choice for low-maintenance gardens. Plus, it might even gently self-seed in the right conditions, which helps fill in gaps naturally and keeps your garden looking full and lush.

Fully hardy in the UK, this little gem can handle frost and cold winters with ease. It typically reaches a height of about 15 cm (0.5 ft) and can spread to about 30 cm (1 ft). If you're looking for a cheerful, resilient plant to add to your garden, Potentilla aurea could be just the one for you!
