Physocarpus opulifolius 'Lucky Devil' is a charming, deciduous shrub that captivates gardeners with its stunning seasonal foliage and attractive flowers. This compact plant is particularly well-suited for borders, mixed plantings, and smaller garden spaces due to its manageable size and vibrant color palette. In spring, the new leaves emerge in a brilliant golden-yellow hue, creating a striking visual contrast that brightens any landscape. As summer approaches, the foliage matures to a warm lime-green, maintaining a luminous quality that adds depth and interest to the garden.
As the seasons change, 'Lucky Devil' continues to impress with its autumn display, showcasing rich orange and red tones before the leaves gracefully drop. In addition to its colorful foliage, this shrub produces clusters of delicate pinkish-white flowers in late spring to early summer, which are not only beautiful but also attract pollinators. Following the flowering period, the plant develops decorative reddish-brown seed capsules that extend its visual appeal well into the fall, ensuring that it remains a focal point in the garden throughout the year.
This naturally bushy shrub maintains a rounded shape with minimal pruning, making it an ideal choice for low hedging, mixed borders, or as a standout feature in container arrangements. For optimal foliage color, 'Lucky Devil' thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. It flourishes in average, well-drained soils and is known for being low maintenance, hardy, and resilient, with good disease resistance and drought tolerance once established. This combination of beauty and resilience makes Physocarpus opulifolius 'Lucky Devil' a delightful addition to any garden. Height: 100 cm (39 in) Spread: 100 cm (39 in)

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Physocarpus plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seedheads are required for late season interest.
Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates fairly hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
