Description

With abundant clusters of small flowers held on each stem plus a delightful perfume, Narcissus ‘Tazetta Mix’ offer a dainty display that sets them apart from larger daffodils. Grow them outdoors to bloom in April/May – they work particularly well in container displays where you can appreciate their petite flowers and sweet fragrance up close. They are also superb for forcing in bowls offering a sensory treat that lifts the dark days of late winter with the promise of spring.

Narcissus ‘Tazetta Mix’ contains the following varieties:

  • Narcissus 'Paper White' (Narcissus papyraceus) - Crisp white, single blooms with the headiest perfume of any daffodil, in clusters of up to 10 flowers per stem. These free-flowering Daffodils can be forced indoors for a beautiful table centre piece in winter, a good month or so before they would naturally emerge outdoors. And the best part? They will perfume your home with a heavenly fragrance! Although not quite as hardy as many varieties, this scented beauty will happily flourish in a sheltered spot outdoors in most parts of the UK. Height: 35cm (14in). Spread: 10cm (4in).
  • Narcissus ‘Avalanche’ - This heirloom variety exudes cottage garden charm bearing a generous 10-20 fragrant flowers per stem with new stems continually produced over several weeks. These dainty beauties are perfectly formed with a neat ring of pure white petals surrounding a tiny yellow cup. Its continual flowering and especially heady fragrance have earned it a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. Ultimate height: 45cm (18in). Ultimate spread: 10cm (4in).
  • Narcissus ‘Grand Soleil d'Or’
  • Perfect for brightening indoor spaces, each stem yields 10 to 20 flowers, their golden-yellow petals and fiery orange cups beaming spring sunshine even on gloomy January days. Highly recommended for indoor forcing, Narcissus ‘Grand Soleil d'Or’ can also be grown outdoors to flower in April/May. Ultimate height: 45cm (18in). Ultimate spread: 10cm (4in).

How to Grow

Daffodil and narcissus bulbs are easy to establish in any moist, well drained soil. Plant the bulbs in full sun or semi-shade at a depth of approximately 10cm (4") and at a distance of 10cm (4") apart. Narcissus and Daffodils look particularly eye-catching when grown as drifts in borders or informal areas of grass. For a really natural effect, cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land.

For an attractive indoor display, plant daffodils and narcissus in containers of bulb fibre and position them cool garage or other well ventilated, dark position at a maximum temperature of 10°C (50°F). Water sparingly when necessary to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 10cm (4") move the containers to a cool bright position indoors (approximately 16°C or 60°F).

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it in June or July. This will help to feed the bulb for the following year. When growing daffodils and narcissus that are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Caution: Contact with daffodil bulbs may irritate the skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.
