Description

A combination of two of our best loved bulb collections to bring colour and variety to your garden.

Our Allium collection contains upright stems add a strong vertical accent to cottage garden borders. These magnificent allium bulbs produce an explosion of colour, followed by architectural seedheads that create a spectacular autumn display. Undemanding and easy to grow, these magnificent allium flowers are also excellent for cutting.

This cheery selection of Narcissus is bound to put a big smile on your face this spring. This exciting collection of miniature daffodils brings together four well known varieties, for a range of colours and flower forms that will brighten up borders, rockeries and patio containers.

  • Collection contains:
  • Allium roseum (14 bulbs) - Also known as rosy garlic, produces narrow, grass like leaves, from which stems of loose , pale pink, cup shaped allium flowers appear. Height 60cm (24"). Spread: 10cm (4").
  • Allium caeruleum (5 bulbs)- Bright blue globes of starry flowers are carried on stiff upright stems. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 8cm (3").
  • Allium sphaerocephalon (30 bulbs)- An understated allium with unusual oval shaped, purple green flower heads, that associates beautifully with swaying grasses. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 8cm (3"). Size 4/5
  • Allium 'Purple Sensation' (3 bulbs) - Globes of starry purple flowers that measure up to 8cm (3") across. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 10cm (4"). Size 9/10
  • Allium 'Mount Everest' (3 bulbs) - Globes of more than 50 star-shaped blooms during June, just before your summer bedding comes into flower.Size 9/10
  • Allium moly (45 bulbs) - Neat clumps of grey-green, strap like foliage bearing dense clusters of star-shaped, golden flowers from late spring. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").
  • Narcissus 'Martinette' (15 Bulbs) - Showy sprays of fragrant, delicate yellow flowers with little orange trumpets.
  • Narcissus 'Niveth' (15 Bulbs) - A beautiful white variety with broad petals which sit behind a flared trumpet - pleasantly scented.
  • Narcissus 'Golden Dawn' (10 Bulbs) - A cup-shaped daffodil, which produces up to three flowers on each stem.
  • Narcissus 'Tête-a-Tête' (20 Bulbs) - A much loved variety with a delightful fragrance.

How to Grow
Alliums thrive in light sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.

Daffodil and narcissus bulbs are easy to establish in any moist, well drained soil. Plant the bulbs in full sun or semi-shade at a depth of approximately 10cm (4") and at a distance of 10cm (4") apart. Narcissus and Daffodils look particularly eye-catching when grown as drifts in borders or informal areas of grass. For a really natural effect, cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land.

For an attractive indoor display, plant daffodils and narcissus in containers of bulb fibre and position them cool garage or other well ventilated, dark position at a maximum temperature of 10°C (50°F). Water sparingly when necessary to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 10cm (4") move the containers to a cool bright position indoors (approximately 16°C or 60°F).

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Alliums require little maintenance. Leave stems of faded allium flowers intact to enjoy their spectacular seedheads in autumn. Divide overcrowded clumps of alliums after flowering. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it in June or July. This will help to feed the bulb for the following year. When growing daffodils and narcissus that are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Caution: Contact with daffodil bulbs may irritate the skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.
