Awarded an RHS AGM, Lavatera x clementii 'Burgundy Wine' makes a useful shrub for the back of sunny borders. The upright stems are covered in felted, grey-green foliage that remains semi-evergreen. From early summer the deep pink flowers are produced in upright spikes that are reminiscent of Hollyhocks. This hard working Tree Mallow continues to bloom throughout the summer and often into autumn, attracting pollinating insects to its nectar rich flowers. Height and spread: 2m (78").

Grow lavatera plants in borders and containers outdoors in moist, well drained soil in full sun. When growing lavatera in containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, lavatera plants require only occasional attention. Pruning lavatera is best undertaken in spring when all risk of frost has passed and the buds begin to swell. Prune all stems hard to about 30cm above ground level. Mallow can be slow to break bud in spring so be patient with plants that might appear to have died over winter as they may still be dormant.
