Description

Lagerstroemia indica 'Rhapsody in Blue' is a captivating choice for gardens, known for its extended blooming period and vibrant foliage. Its compact and bushy form makes it ideal for small spaces and container gardening, reaching a height of about 1.5 meters and a spread of 1.2 meters at maturity. The plant features deciduous leaves that transition from purple to burgundy-red, ultimately turning a striking orange-red in the fall.

This variety produces beautiful violet-pink flower clusters with ruffled petals that resemble crepe paper, blooming from July to October. It is hardy down to -15°C, making it suitable for warmer climates. Thriving in full sun, 'Rhapsody in Blue' prefers moist, well-drained soils but can adapt to various soil types, including neutral to slightly acidic or calcareous conditions. While it requires regular watering during its establishment phase, it becomes drought-tolerant once fully established.

Ideal for borders and beds, this plant adds both color and structure to any garden. It is also well-suited for patios and balconies, where it can be used to create low hedges or privacy screens. Additionally, it serves as a striking focal point in garden designs, enhancing the overall aesthetic with its vibrant blooms and attractive foliage. Pruning in late winter encourages robust growth and abundant flowering, ensuring that this stunning plant remains a highlight in your garden.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water Lagerstroemia regularly particularly when grown in containers. Crepe Myrtle plants will appreciate some protection from hard frosts throughout winter. Prune in winter or spring whilst dormant to remove and dead, damaged or misplaced stems and maintain a pleasing shape.
