Description
The beguiling blooms of Iris ensata Dinner Plate 'Ice Cream' make a spectacular display in early summer. Each elegant flower can reach up to 15cm (6") across, making an unmissable display. The slender foliage and upright stems give this hardy perennial a neat, clump forming habit that adds texture and architecture to planting schemes. Like all Japanese Iris, it requires a moist soil in damp borders or close to the edge of a pond. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 30cm (12").

1 Iris rhizome (KB1790)

How to Grow
Japanese iris plants thrive in moist, acid or neutral soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. These moisture loving iris require a rich, fertile soil which has had plenty of well rotted organic matter added into the soil prior to planting. Avoid submerging iris ensata in ponds and streams as this may cause them to rot. Instead, plant them in moist ground at the water’s edge, or in damp borders and bog gardens with their roots in the shade and their heads in the sun.
More Info
Iris ensata require reliably moist soil. Water if necessary to prevent the soil from drying out. Overcrowded clumps of Japanese iris plants can be divided in autumn after flowering. Mulch around the base of iris ensata in spring to help retain moisture at their roots.
