Flowering Months

The irrepressibly cheerful blooms of Gaillardia ‘Torchlight' shine a beacon of fiery colour from June to October with their daisy-like heads painted with deep orange-red centres surrounded by a yellow border. Flowering over a long period, the showy blooms are held on long stalks which make them excellent for cutting. Attractive to pollinators these short-lived perennials will survive for 3 to 5 years in well-drained soils and perform well in coastal gardens and sandy, drought-prone borders. Height: 75cm (30”). Spread: 30cm (12”).

How to Grow

Grow gaillardia plants in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun.

More Info

Feed and water blanket flower plants until they are fully established. Once established gaillardia copes well with dry soils and is reasonable drought tolerant. Regular deadheading of faded gaillardia flowers will encourage more blooms to be produced. In late summer, cut back old foliage and flower stems to 15cm (6") to encourage basal growth before the first frosts. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of blanket flower in spring, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
