Description

Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora 'Fire Jumper' is a captivating perennial that stands out in any garden due to its vibrant flower colors and upright growth habit. This plant is particularly admired for its striking arching sprays of funnel-shaped flowers, which showcase a brilliant red-orange hue complemented by golden-orange throats. The combination of these fiery tones creates a stunning visual effect that can brighten up any landscape. The flowers bloom successively from mid-summer to late summer, often extending their display into early autumn when conditions are favorable, ensuring a long-lasting show of color.

Each flowering stem of 'Fire Jumper' is adorned with multiple buds that open gradually, allowing for an extended blooming period that delights both gardeners and pollinators alike. This variety is especially attractive to a diverse array of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for those looking to create a wildlife-friendly garden. The foliage of this perennial consists of narrow, pleated leaves that grow upright, resembling swords and forming dense, tidy clumps that add structure to the garden even when not in bloom.

For optimal growth, 'Fire Jumper' thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. It prefers moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil, and it is crucial to avoid waterlogged conditions, particularly during the winter months. This perennial is well-suited for herbaceous borders, prairie-style plantings, and even cut flower arrangements, where its vibrant blooms can shine. Pairing it with ornamental grasses, echinacea, and other late-summer perennials can create a dynamic and colorful display. Hardy in many parts of the UK, a layer of mulch in colder regions can help protect the corms during winter, ensuring that this stunning plant returns year after year. Height: 70 cm (28 in) Spread: 50 cm (20 in).
