Description

Cornus kousa 'Claudia' is a small tree or large shrub that captivates throughout the year, showcasing a stunning display of creamy-white flowers in early summer, then transforming into a brilliant kaleidoscope of autumn foliage.

In late spring and early summer, elegant creamy?white bracts unfold across its open, layered canopy, taking on subtle pink hues as they age, creating an eye?catching display. Rich green leaves turn fiery shades of orange, red and purple in autumn, while decorative pink?red berries add interest later in the season. Its beautiful spreading form and multi?season appeal make it a striking focal point in mixed beds, as a standalone specimen or even grown in a large container. For the best flowering performance, plant in full sun.

Ultimate height: 4m to 6m (13-19.6ft). Ultimate spread: 3m (9.8ft) to 4m (9.8ft-13ft).

How to Grow
Grow Cornus trees in rich fertile, well drained, neutral to acid soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve drainage and soil fertility. Plant dogwood trees in a sunny or semi-shaded position.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water flowering dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, Cornus trees require only occasional attention. Pruning dogwood is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in late winter or early spring. As the tree matures the lower branches can be removed to create a clear trunk. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant in spring.
