Description
Cornus kousa is a spectacular small tree, providing plenty of interest which changes through the seasons. Starting in spring with a dense canopy of fresh green leaves, followed by an illumination of elegant white flowers during summer. In autumn the flowers on this Flowering Dogwood turn into small red strawberry-like fruits which sit beautifully among the foliage as it takes on its alluring purple-bronze hue. An easy-to-grow, low maintenance option for bringing structural interest to a border or shrubbery or to show off as a free-standing specimen. Height: 7m (23’). Spread: 5m (16’).

How to Grow
Grow Cornus trees in rich fertile, well drained, neutral to acid soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve drainage and soil fertility. Plant dogwood trees in a sunny or semi-shaded position.
More Info
Feed and water flowering dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, Cornus trees require only occasional attention. Pruning dogwood is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in late winter or early spring. As the tree matures the lower branches can be removed to create a clear trunk. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant in spring.
