Description

Caryopteris × clandonensis 'Beyond Midnight' is a delightful compact deciduous shrub that brings a splash of vibrant color to gardens, particularly in late summer and early autumn. Its striking deep blue flowers bloom in dense clusters, creating a stunning visual display that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of borders and containers but also attracts a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. This makes it an excellent choice for gardeners looking to support local wildlife while enjoying a beautiful landscape.

The foliage of 'Beyond Midnight' is equally impressive, featuring glossy, dark green leaves that can appear nearly black, contributing to its unique charm. The shrub maintains a tidy, mounded shape, making it a versatile addition to various garden settings. When brushed, the aromatic leaves release a delightful fragrance, adding another sensory dimension to the garden experience. This shrub thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it well-suited for a range of environments, from mixed borders to gravel gardens and even as a standout feature in containers.

Once established, Caryopteris × clandonensis 'Beyond Midnight' is notably drought-tolerant, making it an ideal option for low-maintenance gardens. To promote vigorous growth and an abundance of flowers, it is recommended to prune the plant back hard in the spring. This hardy shrub is well-adapted to most locations in the UK, provided there is good drainage, ensuring that it can flourish and provide beauty and interest for many seasons to come. Height: 75 cm (2.5 ft) Spread: 75 cm (2.5 ft).
