This mid to late season variety produces good crops of deliciously sweet, deep blue berries with a lovely firm texture. The fruits are borne in clusters in late July and August and will often keep longer than many other varieties. Blueberry ‘Bluegold’ is a particularly attractive variety for its white spring flowers, golden autumn foliage and yellow stems in winter. With such good looks it will be equally at home in your shrub borders, as well as the veggie plot or allotment. This Blueberry variety is also self fertile so you won’t need a second plant to pollinate it. Height: 2m (78"). Spread: 1.5m (59").

How to Grow

Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and soil based compost.

If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework.
