In early summer the branches of Weigela 'Kosteriana Variegata' are literally weighed down with blooms. Masses of pink tubular flowers smother the length of the stems, almost covering the foliage. As the flowers fade, this spreading, deciduous shrub remains eye catching for its variegated green leaves that are edged with a deep buttery yellow margin. Weigela is easy to grow and often seen in cottage garden borders and woodland plantings. Grow this variety toward the back of the border where its arching stems have room to spread. Height & Spread: 2m (7’).

How to Grow

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
