Flowering Months

Add a splash of colour to borders and containers with Weigela 'Moulin Rouge'. This deciduous hardy shrub has lovely gold and green variegated foliage that sets off its red spring flowers beautifully. Weigela is reliable and easy to grow, with a pleasing upright habit. An attractive specimen for a mixed border and a useful addition in the wildlife garden where it will attract pollinating insects to its nectar rich blooms. Height: 1.8m (6'). Spread: 1.2m (4').

How to Grow

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
