Description
This elegant little Water Lily produces pristine white blooms with golden anthers that contrast beautifully with its glossy, rounded lily pads. This tender Water Lily is neat and compact so you can even grow it in a small pond or a water barrel on the patio. Tender Water Lilies will require protection from cold winter weather. They should be lifted in autumn and stored in a frost free location at a minimum temperature of 10C (50F). Height and spread: 100cm (39").

How to Grow

Tender varieties of waterlily must not be planted outdoors until all risk of frost has passed. Plant waterlilies in baskets of aquatic soil, with the rhizome just below the surface, and cover the top of the compost with a layer of gravel to prevent the soil washing away.

Grow waterlilies in still water away from splashing fountains. Gently lower containers into the water and position them on temporary supports such as bricks so that they sit just 20cm (8”) below the surface of the water. As the leaves grow to rest on the water surface, the container can be gradually lowered to its final depth below the water.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info

Remove yellowing leaves and faded flowers regularly. When the leaves of mature plants begin to emerge above the water surface, lift them from the water and divide overcrowded crowns. Repot young portions of the crown and discard the older portions.

Tender water Lilies must be protected from cold weather. If growing water lilies in containers move them to a sheltered position for the winter, in a cool but frost-free location with a minimum temperature of 10°C. If growing in an outdoor pond, lift the rhizomes in autumn and overwinter in damp sand at a minimum temperature of 10°C. Re-plant, discarding older portions of the crown on mature plants after any risk of frosts.
