Description

Vitex agnus-castus 'Blue Diddley' is a compact, upright shrub renowned for its striking blue-violet flower spikes and fragrant foliage. This cultivar is particularly appreciated for its vibrant color and extended blooming season, making it a standout addition to any garden.

Reaching a height of 150 cm (59 in) and a spread of 120 cm (47 in), 'Blue Diddley' exhibits a bushy, well-branched growth habit with a tidy, rounded form. Its medium green, deeply lobed, palmate leaves are aromatic, enhancing the sensory experience of the garden. The dense spikes of tubular flowers emerge from mid-summer to early autumn, attracting a variety of pollinators with their mild, pleasant fragrance.

This hardy shrub thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, demonstrating adaptability to various soil types, including sandy and loamy conditions. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant, making it suitable for low-maintenance gardens. 'Blue Diddley' is an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly landscapes, borders, or as a colorful specimen shrub, and light pruning after flowering will help maintain its shape and promote bushy growth.
