This hardy perennial makes a superb addition to wildflower gardens. Golden, star-shaped flowers with long stamens appear at the tips of upright stems throughout summer. On close inspection, the brilliant yellow petals are peppered with tiny black dots. Also known as ‘Perforate St Johns Wort’, the leaves have many tiny holes which can be seen when held up to the light. The flowers are very popular with bees and also play host to the fabulously iridescent St Johns Wort Beetle. An excellent wildflower for boosting biodiversity in your garden. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Sow February to July onto the surface of a good, free-draining, damp, seed compost. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place sown container in a greenhouse or seal container inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 10-15C (50-60F) until after germination which usually takes 1-3 months. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually acclimatise young plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out 45cm (18in) apart.
