Description

Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Pink Hopi' is a charming, compact shrub that brings a delightful touch of color to gardens, particularly in the spring. Its young shoots, which emerge in early March, display a stunning array of hues including red, pink, cream, and white. This vibrant foliage lasts significantly longer than that of traditional varieties, providing an extended period of visual interest. As the season progresses, the leaves transition into a lush green, featuring finely serrated, pinnate structures that add texture and depth to the landscape.

In addition to its striking foliage, 'Pink Hopi' produces fluffy white panicles of flowers during June and July, enhancing the summer garden with their airy presence. The shrub maintains a dense and compact growth habit, which minimizes suckering and makes it an excellent choice for smaller spaces such as patios, containers, and garden borders. Its adaptability allows it to thrive in a range of soil types, provided they are moist and well-drained, and it flourishes in full sun to light shade. Hardy to approximately -30 °C, this resilient plant is well-suited for gardens throughout the UK.

One of the appealing aspects of Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Pink Hopi' is its low maintenance requirements. It does not necessitate regular pruning or special treatments, although gardeners may choose to remove seedheads if desired. During its flowering period, the shrub attracts a variety of pollinators, contributing to the overall health of the garden ecosystem. Even in winter, the bare stems retain an attractive quality, ensuring that the shrub remains a focal point in the landscape. With a height of around 160 cm (5 ft 3 in) and a spread of approximately 100 cm (3 ft 3 in), 'Pink Hopi' is a perfect addition for those looking to enhance their outdoor spaces with minimal effort.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Sorbaria plants can spread quickly once established to create small thickets. Where necessary, remove suckers as they appear to restrict the spread on the plant. Sorbaria responds well to occasional restrictive pruning to keep them restrained and in good shape.
