Description
Rumex sanguineus is grown for its foliage; crimson veins decorate each dark green leaf with intricate patterns. The large leaves form dense, attractive rosettes that create good cover for wildlife when grown in large groups. Wood Dock is a hardy, resilient British native, commonly seen on woodland edges and verges. Its love of damp soils makes it ideal for growing as a marginal aquatic in wildlife ponds and native planting schemes. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 30cm (12"). Planting depth: Zones 1 and 2 to 15cm (6") below water level.

Culinary Herb note: Some parts of these plants are edible and can be used as herbs to add flavour and colour to your meals. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Rumex in moist, boggy soils or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a maximum depth of up to 15cm (6") below water level. Choose a position in full sun.
More Info
Rumex is grown for its foliage and tends to become tall and leggy if allowed to flower. Remove the flower spikes as they appear to maintain good foliage colour and a more compact habit. Cut back the old foliage in autumn to just above the water’s surface.
