Description
Rowan are usually a familiar sight in gardens or growing in hedgerows and quite rightly so. The Mountain Ash is fast growing once established and will tolerate being clipped back regularly as this will encourage it to branch out and "thicken" it's habit - perfect for a hedge! Clusters of white flowers will appear in spring, which will eventually turn to bright orange or red berries by autumn which will add colour and interest to your hedgerow whilst the leaves are fading and falling away. . Supplied as 60 - 80 cm bareroots (24 - 31"). Height: 12m (39'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting Distance: 45cm (18"). (3 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

How to Grow
Plant rowan in moist soil that is also well drained. When initially planting, ensure plenty of compost or organic matter is incorporated into the planting hole to give the plant the best possible start.
More Info
Rowan can be grown as a free-standing shrub or trained as a hedge. Free-standing shrubs will require minimal pruning; simply removed any dead, damaged or diseased growth each spring. Trim hedges in May and again in August. After pruning, mulch plants with 5cm (2") of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plants.
