Description

The most popular and adaptable variety of Lawson’s cypress. Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Ellwoodii’ is perfect for a wide variety of uses: solitary specimen, hedging and screening, small windbreak, rockery feature or container planting. Resistant to wind, pollution and coastal conditions, there’s a place for this resilient conifer in all types of gardens. Its slow growing nature also makes it perfect for smaller growing spaces such as courtyards, roof gardens and terraces.

Boasting an array of excellent characteristics, Chamaecyparis ‘Ellwoodii’ has been recognised with an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Its erect, columnar habit offers architectural interest and vertical accents. Dense structure lends privacy and shelter. Soft, feathery, silvery grey foliage provides colour that intensifies to steel blue in the cold months, delivering valuable winter interest. All of this in a robust, undemanding plant that is slow growing so it requires little to no pruning. Overall, an attractive and reliable conifer for a wide variety of situations. Height: 4-6m (13-20ft). Spread: 1.5-2.5m (5-8ft)

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cypress trees in moist, well drained soil. Chamaecyparis prefers a neutral or acid soil but does tolerate chalky soils well. Choose a position in full sun.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Once established, Cypress trees require virtually no maintenance. When grown as a hedge, prune Chamaecyparis at any time between late spring and early autumn, taking care not to prune into older wood.
