Description

Purifying Pond Plant Collection transforms your pond into a vibrant, healthy water feature. This carefully curated mix of six aquatic plants oxygenates the water and consumes excess nutrients, helping to keep algae at bay while providing essential cover, shelter and food for amphibians, insects and birds. With a variety of colours, shapes and foliage textures, these plants bring year-round interest and visual appeal, creating a lively, attractive pond environment. Perfect for adding both beauty and balance to your water garden, Purifying Pond Plant Collection supports wildlife while enhancing the overall look of your pond.

Purifying Pond Plant Collection comprises varieties selected at random and may include, but is not limited to the following species:

  • Acorus calamus (Sweet Flag) – A non-invasive rush that forms slowly spreading clumps in shallow water or boggy ground, with flat, blade-like, fresh green foliage and clusters of arum-like flowers from May to July. The leaves have a sweet citrus smell when crushed. Ultimate height: 60cm to 90cm (24- 35in). Ultimate spread: 50cm to 100cm (20-39in).
  • Carex riparia (Greater Pond Sedge)- Tall stems and stiff, strap-like, glaucous green leaves that provide a striking vertical accent to pond margins and bog gardens. Flowering from May to June, it produces stout, upright spikes of dark brown flowers that add textural interest. Ultimate height and spread: 1.5m (4.9ft).
  • Hippuris vulgaris (Common Mare’s Tail)  – A hardy British native and a superb oxygenating aquatic. The upright whorled stems of evergreen foliage emerge from the water surface like little bottle brushes. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).
  • Iris Pseudacorus (Yellow flag iris) - Strap-like foliage and tall stems of bright yellow flowers in early summer that attract pollinating insects. Adds a strong vertical element to pond planting schemes. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 30cm (12").
  • Sparganium erectum (Branched Bur Reed)- Fast growing native with vertical, narrow, strap-like foliage on tall stems. Throughout summer the spherical, brown flowers are borne along stiffly upright stems, becoming fascinating spiky round fruits later in the season. Height: 150cm (59in). Spread: 200cm (78in).
  • Typha angustifolia (Lesser Bulrush) – British native bulrush with tall flower stems rising from clumps of deciduous linear grey-green foliage from July to September. Chocolate brown, cylindrical flower heads turn into fluffy beige seed heads. Height and spread: 150cm (59in).
