Description

Stunning blossom in March and brilliant autumn foliage makes this compact tree a perfect multi-season specimen for small gardens.

Prunus 'Kursar' delivers an early, eye?catching show of rich deep pink blossom long before many other cherries come into flower, making it a favourite for early spring colour. Its elegant, spreading habit is complemented by new bronze?tinged leaves that turn green by summer and then brilliant shades of orange and red in autumn, offering three seasons of interest. A hardy ornamental cherry that's tolerant of challenging conditions including urban pollution, it's popular for small gardens, courtyards or as a standout feature in borders, and its early blooms are much loved by bees and pollinators emerging from hibernation.

Ultimate height: 4m (13ft). Ultimate spread: 3m (9.8ft).

How to Grow
Plant cherry trees in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water Prunus trees regularly until fully established. Ornamental cherries require little aftercare. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. When pruning cherries it is preferable to wait until midsummer to avoid the risk of ‘silver leaf’ infection. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stem.
