Description

Polyanthus 'Pretty Polly Burgundy' is a captivating perennial that stands out with its lush, velvety burgundy flowers, which add a touch of richness and warmth to early spring gardens. This compact variety is perfect for those looking to infuse vibrant color into borders, containers, and seasonal bedding arrangements. Gardeners appreciate its neat growth habit and extended flowering period, making it a favorite for creating eye-catching displays that last well into the season.

The deep burgundy blooms are particularly striking, featuring a delightful golden yellow center that creates a beautiful contrast. These flowers begin to emerge early in the year, typically from late winter through mid-spring, providing a much-anticipated burst of color after the dreary winter months. Accompanying the blooms are low rosettes of textured, mid-green foliage that not only enhance the plant's aesthetic appeal but also serve as a lush backdrop for the vibrant flowers.

While 'Pretty Polly Burgundy' thrives in partial shade, it is adaptable enough to tolerate full sun, provided it is kept adequately moist. This perennial flourishes in fertile, well-drained soil, making it an excellent choice for various planting scenarios, including containers, window boxes, and as edging in mixed borders. To encourage a longer blooming period, regular deadheading of faded flowers is recommended. Hardy in most of the UK, withstanding temperatures as low as approximately -15 °C, this variety is also a magnet for pollinators, making it a valuable addition to cottage garden designs.
