Description
The new, spring growth of this glossy evergreen is scarlet red, remaining bright for slightly longer than other varieties. Creamy spring flowers stand out against this showy backdrop of leaves, creating a dazzling display. Like all of its kind, the foliage gradually matures to bronze before darkening to deep green by late summer. With an upright habit, this evergreen shrub brings valuable structure and year round colour to borders. Equally useful when grown as a stand-alone specimen shrub, or planted as a dense hedge or screen. Height and spread: 4m (13’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Photinia plants in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any moderately fertile, moist, well drained soil. In frost prone areas, plant Photinia next to a warm wall or in the shelter of other shrubs. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Photinia shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Photinia requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, it can be trimmed up to 3 times a year, from late spring through to mid-August.
