Description
The best known of its species, Photinia 'Red Robin' is well loved for its blaze of bright scarlet young foliage in spring. The glossy new leaves and crimson stems make a strong contrast with the mature green foliage lower down the plant, giving an eye catching two-tone effect. The spring foliage is complemented by rounded clusters of creamy white flowers. This popular evergreen is easily maintained as a standard and makes an attractive feature for borders and patio pots all year round. Total plant height height 1m (39in), head of foliage approx 14cm (5in) diameter.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Photinia plants in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any moderately fertile, moist, well drained soil. In frost prone areas, plant Photinia next to a warm wall or in the shelter of other shrubs. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Photinia shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Photinia requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, it can be trimmed up to 3 times a year, from late spring through to mid-August.
