Description
A superb evergreen shrub for those challenging coastal locations. Phillyrea angustifolia boasts salt-tolerant foliage, and positively thrives in light sandy soils. The narrow, leathery, dark green leaves are accompanied by fragrant, creamy white flowers in late spring and early summer, which are later followed by small black berries. This versatile shrub can be grown as a free-standing specimen or clipped as a formal hedge. Height: 300cm (118"). Spread: 200cm (78").

How to Grow
Grow Phillyrea plants in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any moderately fertile, well drained, sandy soil. In windy areas, plant Phillyrea next to a wall or in the shelter of other shrubs.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. Once established, Phillyrea requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, it can be trimmed in summer.
