Monarda Censation™ 'Confetti’ is a cheery colour mix with modern garden performance and plenty of old fashioned charm. These distinctive perennials have deliciously aromatic foliage and whorls of spidery blooms with tube shaped, curving petals. Bergamot is perfect for cottage garden borders where it will form dense clumps. The exuberant flowers are also great for a wildlife garden as they are loved by bees. Height and spread: 45cm (18”).

Culinary note: Use the dried leaves to make Bergamot tea or use the sweet, spicy flavoured petals to enhance salads, jellies, rice or pasta dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow

Bergamot plants dislike soils which are particularly dry or have a tendency to waterlogging. Plant them in a moist, well drained soil, adding compost or well rotted manure to amend excessively heavy clay or sandy soils. Choose a position in sun, semi shade or dappled shade.

Feed and water regularly until they are fully established. Deadhead faded bergamot flower heads to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure around the crown of each plant in spring. Lift and divide clumps of monarda plants every 3 years in autumn to maintain vigorous, healthy growth.
