Description

This spotted leopard is the latest addition to the exotic Cannova menagerie! Cannova ‘Gold Leopard’ features a unique ‘animal print’ pattern consisting of a gold ground overlaid with irregular deep orange spots.

The Cannova Series of Cannas is unlike any others on the market. Despite its tropical looks, Canna ‘Gold Leopard’ is tough, cold tolerant and long flowering. Pumping out blooms all summer, Cannova ‘Gold Leopard’ begins to flower in April and continues until the first frosts. It is perfectly happy in the heat but will also flower reliably in cooler British summers. This powerful plant produces strong, branching stems with large, tropical leaves and performs equally well in borders or containers. Height: 75cm (30in) Spread: 40cm (16").

Culinary note: Canna lily rhizomes can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to water chestnut, although they are sometimes bitter. They can also be boiled and baked, in the same way as a potato and have a similar texture and taste. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
