Description
A 'must have' in any garden, these Himalayan Blue Poppies bring the wow factor to any garden especially planted in difficult, damp shady areas. We just love the indescribable, clear blue colour of Meconopsis blooms contrasting against golden yellow stamens; once seen, never forgotten! This special perennial makes an unusual and stunning feature throughout early summer, planted en masse to astound you year after year. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 50cm (20").

For the best success with this special perennial the planting soil needs to be neutral to slightly acidic, moist but well-drained and enriched with leaf mould or bulky garden compost. The site should be partially shaded with shelter from cold, dry winds. Customers with sandy or chalky alkaline soils might like to try them in containers of ericaceous compost boosted with lots of bulky garden compost.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up meconopsis plants into peaty compost and grow them on in bright, frost-free conditions with protection from strong, direct sunlight. When they are well grown, acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days, prior to planting out in their final positions. Choose a sheltered spot in semi or dappled shade - a cool, moist woodland situation is ideal, but the Himalayan poppy will also thrive in a moist, shaded border. Meconopsis prefers a rich, moist, neutral to acid, well drained soil that remains moist throughout summer, but does not sit wet in winter.
More Info
Meconopsis poppies particularly dislike dry soils and excessive heat. Water regularly during hot, dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. In spring, apply a mulch of chipped bark, leaf mould or other organic matter around the crown of the plant. Deadhead faded blue meconopsis flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
