Description

Fast growing and evergreen, the New Zealand Broadleaf is an ideal hedging plant. Its oval shaped leaves are generally pest free and so will keep a neat and tidy appearance all year around. Tolerant of full sun, Griselinia littoralis is easy to grow in most positions and so can also be used where other hedges have failed to establish themselves! Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 4m (13'). Planting distance: 30cm (12"). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

For instant impact try one of one of our innovative trough-grown hedges! Each trough contains a 1 metre length of pre-planted hedging to create a mature looking hedge from the very moment it is planted. With well-established root systems, you’ll find that trough-grown hedges are correctly spaced, making them much easier to plant. The healthy framework of branches are nicely knitted together, and can be trimmed to the ideal height immediately after planting. Better still, you can plant them all year round, so long as adequate irrigation is provided. If planting is delayed then trough-grown hedges can be easily maintained until you are ready, without the need for ‘heeling in’.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Prior to planting New Zealand Broadleaf, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil. These plants prefer well drained soil and a position in full sun

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water young plants during particularly dry periods until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the hedge. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer
