Description
This species Gladiolus is graceful and elegant – a far cry from the flamboyant Sword Lilies found in many UK gardens. Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus produces its slender swaying stems of cerise pink blooms in late spring and early summer, bridging the colour gap between fading spring bulbs and budding summer perennials. The slender, tapering foliage forms a dense clump when these bulbs are planted in generous groups, and they will multiply each year if well established. Perfect for planting among Alliums or rising between ornamental grasses. A lovely choice for a sunny herbaceous border, and they make charming cut flowers too. Height: 90cm (35"). Spread: 10cm (4").

How to Grow
Grow groups of gladioli in sunny, sheltered borders on well drained soil. Gladioli require excellent drainage to prevent them from rotting. Improve heavy soils by adding plenty of well rotted manure and grit prior to planting. Plant gladiolus corms at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 15cm (6”) apart.
More Info
Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus is perfectly hardy and can be left in the ground all your round. Allow the foliage to die back naturally in autumn. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps to maintain their vigour.
