Description

Foxglove 'Elsie Kelsey', also referred to as 'Pam's Choice', is an exceptional variety of the common foxglove, celebrated for its stunning floral display and its ability to attract pollinators. This remarkable plant not only enhances the beauty of any garden with its impressive blooms but also contributes positively to the ecosystem.

Its ease of cultivation and striking visual appeal make it a top choice for gardeners who desire both aesthetic charm and functional benefits. With tall spires of creamy white flowers, intricately marked with deep burgundy blotches, it creates a captivating contrast that is sure to draw the eye. The plant's narrow, lance-shaped leaves form a rosette in its first year, and it blooms from June to August, providing vibrant mid-summer color while inviting bumblebees and other pollinators.

As a biennial or short-lived perennial, it develops a lush rosette of leaves in its first year and produces flowering spikes in the second. Thriving in partial to full shade, it is perfect for woodland gardens or shaded borders, preferring well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells, but it must be kept away from waterlogged conditions. This plant can self-seed under the right circumstances, and for those looking to preserve specific traits, collecting seeds from chosen plants or purchasing named cultivars is recommended.

Typically reaching heights of up to 1.2 meters (about 4 feet), it adds vertical interest to garden beds and borders, making it a must-have for any garden enthusiast.

How to Grow
Although foxgloves prefer a fertile, moist soil, they will happily tolerate almost any soil except those that are excessively dry or waterlogged.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water foxglove plants regularly until fully established. Foxgloves self-seed freely. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead stems of foxglove flowers as the blooms fade. In autumn, cut back old stems to encourage plenty of new side shoots. Caution: All parts of foxgloves are toxic if eaten, and contact with the foliage may irritate the skin and eyes.
