Description
Once you have seen Fascicularia in full flower, it is quite impossible to forget! This extraordinary Bromeliad is a Chilean native with linear silver-green foliage that forms a spreading, evergreen rosette. The leaves are tough with a sharp, serrated edge. In late summer, the foliage turns to scarlet red as the flowers emerge. The flower bracts are tightly packed with tiny bright blue flowers that create an astonishing colour contrast. This clump forming perennial is hardy to -5C (23F), and can be grown in sheltered borders and rockeries in very mild areas, with free draining soil. In colder locations, it is best brought under cover for the winter to protect it from cold, wet conditions. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Fascicualaria in poor, sharply drained soil in full sun. In free draining soils, it will tolerate short periods down to -5C (23F). However, these plants particularly resent cold, wet soils. In areas where cold, wet winters are common, it is best grown in a container that can be moved to a frost free greenhouse or conservatory during the winter months.
More Info
Water regularly during the growing season and feed once a month with a nitrogen rich fertiliser. During the winter months, reduce watering to keep the compost just moist, but never wet as Bromeliads particularly resent cold, wet soils. Increase watering again, when plants start into growth again in late spring.
