Flowering Months

The result of a cross between the popular E x macrantha 'The Bride' and E. racemosa, this stunning plant combines both its parents distinctive characteristics to create an upright, rounded deciduous shrub with masses of early season flowers in April and May, thus removing the ungainly straggliness of other exochordas. Its compact, shrubby habit means that Exochorda racemosa 'Niagra' can be grown in the border or in a big pot on the patio. Once established, this plant will take drought well, but does enjoy rich conditions. Height & Spread: 1.5m (5').

How to Grow

Grow Exochorda in any moist, well drained fertile soil in sun or dappled shade. Exochorda tolerates most soils except for shallow, chalky conditions.

After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to strong buds lower down the stems. Large, mature Exochorda plants will also benefit from a fifth of the oldest stems being cut back to the base of the plant each year.
