Description
This semi-evergreen fern produces airy, coppery-pink fronds that mature to light green as they grow. The elegant foliage forms a neat clump that makes beautiful ground cover when planted en masse in woodland areas. In shaded borders, Dryopteris erythrosora provides fabulous colour and texture, creating a natural, understated feel to planting schemes. Commonly known as the Japanese Shield Fern, this hardy perennial will appreciate a lightly shaded position in reliably damp soil. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 40cm (16").

How to Grow
Plant Dryopteris in a sheltered spot. Choose a position in dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral, soil. Dryopteris ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring.
