Dianella tasmanica 'Destiny' is an eye-catching evergreen perennial that stands out for its striking variegated leaves and vibrant blue berries. This plant brings a touch of the tropics to any garden or container, thanks to its lush foliage and ornamental fruit. The long, strap-like leaves are particularly noteworthy, featuring dramatic cream or yellow variegation along the edges that beautifully contrasts with the deep green centers. This unique coloration not only adds visual interest but also creates a dynamic architectural element in landscaping.
In late spring to early summer, 'Destiny' produces charming, star-shaped flowers that range in color from pale blue to violet. These delicate blooms are a delightful addition to the garden, attracting pollinators and enhancing the overall aesthetic. Following the flowering period, the plant develops clusters of metallic blue berries that persist through the autumn and winter months. These berries not only provide a striking visual display but also serve as a food source for birds, contributing to the biodiversity of the garden.
This resilient plant thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade, making it versatile for various garden settings. Once established, it demonstrates a commendable tolerance for drought, although it benefits from regular watering during dry spells. Hardy in mild temperate climates, 'Destiny' may require some winter protection in colder regions. Its adaptability makes it an excellent choice for borders, containers, or as a vibrant groundcover, ensuring year-round interest with its colorful foliage and berries. Height: 60 cm (2 ft) Spread: 90 cm (3 ft)
