Description

Dahlia hybrid ‘Clarion’ is a captivating decorative dahlia variety celebrated for its impressive, large blooms that showcase a stunning deep red hue. These flowers, which can reach up to 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter, are fully double, creating a lush and abundant appearance that draws the eye. Blooming from mid-summer until the first frosts of autumn, ‘Clarion’ provides a vibrant burst of color that enhances any garden setting or serves as an exquisite addition to floral arrangements.

This cultivar develops into a bushy plant adorned with dark green, serrated leaves, which not only complement the striking flowers but also contribute to its overall visual appeal. For optimal flowering, ‘Clarion’ thrives in full sun, making it an excellent choice for sunny borders or containers. It flourishes best in well-drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter, ensuring that the plant receives the nutrients it needs to produce its spectacular blooms. Regular deadheading is recommended to prolong the flowering period, allowing gardeners to enjoy its beauty for an extended time.

In addition to its aesthetic qualities, ‘Clarion’ is also beneficial for the ecosystem, attracting a variety of pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which are essential for maintaining a healthy garden. For those in colder regions of the UK, it is important to lift and store the tubers over the winter months to protect them from frost damage. Whether used in garden borders, as part of container displays, or as cut flowers, Dahlia hybrid ‘Clarion’ is sure to make a striking statement and bring joy to any floral setting. Height: 90 cm (35 in) Spread: 60 cm (24 in)

More Info
Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Bedding dahlia are generally grown as annuals, however dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position if required.
