Flowering Months

p>Small, brilliant scarlet flowers drip from arching stems. Crocosmia ‘Emberglow’ adds spots of fiery red to borders without being overpowering. It looks wonderful contrasted with deep purples such as Salvia ‘Amistad’ or blended with the golds and oranges of Heleniums. Croscosmias are brilliant for injecting colour into late summer and autumn borders. Their sword-shaped foliage also provides a useful contrast earlier in the summer, breaking up the monotony of mound-forming perennials. This drought and heat tolerant perennial requires little maintenance. Height: 80cm (31in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

How to Grow

Grow Crocosmia in rich fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. If necessary, improve soils by adding plenty of well rotted manure prior to planting. Plant Crocosmia corms at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart.

Crocosmia requires little attention throughout the growing season. Remove old foliage and faded flower stems in autumn and apply a mulch of bark chips or well rotted compost to protect the corms over winter. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Crocosmia in spring to maintain their vigour.
