Cover walls, pergolas or fences with this classic beauty, Clematis viticella. This vigorous variety will quickly twine its way up trellis or growing supports to create an attractive and prolific screen with elegant purple blooms from summer through to autumn. Fully hardy, resilient and easy to grow, you can enjoy a long season of interest from this undemanding climber, its mauve blooms providing a generous splash of colour while its lush green leaves form a dense screen. Growing to a substantial size, it’s ideal for covering a dull shed or wall. This perennial climber is easy to keep neat and tidy and can be right back to ground level at the end of the season to make way for fresh new stems the following year. Height: 4m (13’). Spread: 1.5m (5’). Pruning group: 3.
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. This variety of clematis flowers in late summer on the current year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in spring before active growth begins. When pruning group 3 Clematis, cut back all of the previous year’s stems to a pair of healthy buds at around 20cm (8") above ground level. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
