Bring colour and interest to your garden in winter with this astonishing new Clematis! A unique cross between C. napaulensis x C. cirrhosa ‘Freckles’, this new hybrid is reliably evergreen, with dainty blooms from November through to January. The nodding, cup-shaped flowers of Clematis ‘Advent Bells’ are creamy-white outside, with showy, red-speckled markings inside, and a prominent cluster of stamens. Clematis ‘Advent Bells’ is perfectly hardy, happily tolerating -10C (14F). Plant this vigorous grower close to your home where the winter flowers can be best appreciated. Height: 5m (15’). Spread: 3m (10’). Pruning group: 1.

When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3”) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
More Info Feed occasionally and water frequently throughout the growing season. Too much feed will result in fewer flowers on this particular variety. This variety of clematis flowers in late winter and early spring on the previous year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in summer, after flowering. When pruning a Group 1 Clematis, remove any damaged or dead stems entirely before cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds to maintain the plant within its allotted space. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
